Cochini Jews - Malabar Jews (Videos)

The Jews of India aren't one singular community. Among themselves they are divided into different communities. Each community has its own different culture, background and origin. Each community claims its arrival in India in different ways and it is not always clear how they really came to India. The three main Jewish communities of India are: Bene Israel, Cochini and Baghdadi. Besides there were Ashkenazi Jews and a community in east India which claim Israeli origin and call

Messianic Jewish Emuna: Discipleship

(Mattityahu/Matthew 28:18-20) “Yeshua came and talked with them. He said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore, go and make all people from all nations into talmidim, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember! I will be with you always, yes, even until the end of the age.”
These were the last instructions of our Master to his talmidim (disciples) in the Good News according to Mattityahu. Here we

How to stop a mosque from being built

In Seville Spain, local people found a way to stop the construction of another mosque in their town. They buried a pig on the site, and made sure this would be known by the local press.
The Islamic rules forbid the erecting of a Mosque on "pig soiled ground." The Muslims had to cancel the project. This land was sold to them by government officials.
No protests were needed by the local people...and it worked!

Do you really want Mashiach Now? Many people have that cry in their lips, but do not mean it. In the Amida which is a set of prayers composed by eighteen different prayers, we find at the end of it a prayer asking for Mashiach to come, to reveal Himself, and to bring Yeshuah / Salvation to our people, to our lives, to bring true Shelema (peace) to us and for all Israel His people.
The text says: “May the Shoot of David blossom and flourish, and let the light of Yeshuah /

What is LaShon Harah (evil speech)?

One of the most difficult sections of the Torah to understand is the discussion of "Tzarat," a skin disease commonly mistranslated as "leprosy." In truth, Tzarat is a physical manifestation of a spiritual deficiency. The Talmud (Arachin 16) says that Tzarat comes specifically as a consequence of "lashon hara" - negative speech about another person.
A Jewish tale illustrates this point: A man went about the community telling malicious lies about his Rabbi.

What is Messianic Judaism?

The earliest followers and disciples of Rabbi Yeshua of Nazareth believed that Yeshua was the promised Mashiach (Messiah) of Israel and the Redeemer of all nations. However, they did not believe that Yeshua came to start a new religion or to abolish the Torah (Teaching, Instruction) of Moshe; instead, they continued to worship the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob as participants in the ancient Israelite faith, now called Judaism. To be clear, the first known Christians in fact were

Is it Jewish to Believe in our Rabbi Yeshua HaMashiach?

To some, the concept of a Jew believing in our Rabbi Yeshua seems to be a contradiction. The reason is, many people have a dichotomy set up in their minds. On the one hand, you have Jews and Judaism and on the other hand, Christians and Christianity.
You are either one or the other…..so the thinking goes. But this simple dichotomy is in reality not so simple. If we go back 2,000 years historically, we find that our Rabbi Maran Yeshua was a Jew living in a Jewish land among Jewish

Offering New Alternatives to Homosexuality

Most probable theory on why humans could become homosexuals is because of families without a father or a mother.
A boy that's raised only by a mother will have nobody to take men traits from. Very often if the father has been absent from the family life for longer periods, the guy might simply become very girly which may result in his attraction to same-sex.
The homosexual activists usually say, that there is no method of fighting with it and there's no way to cure this

Jewish / Civil Date Converter - Jewish Calendar

The Hebrew (or Jewish) calendar attempts to simultaneously maintain alignment between the months and the seasons and synchronise months with the Moon—it is thus deemed a “luni-solar calendar”. In addition, there are constraints on which days of the week on which a year can begin and to shift otherwise required extra days to prior years to keep the length of the year within the prescribed bounds. This isn’t easy, and the computations required

The tallit (also pronounced tallis, or talet) is a prayer shawl, the most authentic Jewish garment. The purpose of the garment is to hold the Tzitzit.

Why of Yarmulka, Skullcaps, Kippah (Videos)

Wearing of a head covering (yarmulka, skullcaps, kippah ) for men was only instituted in Talmudic times (approximately the second century CE). The first mention of it is in Tractate Shabbat, which discusses respect and fear of God. Some sources likened it to the High Priest who wore a hat (Mitznefet) to remind him something was always between him and God. Thus, wearing a kippah makes us all like the high priest and turns us into a "holy nation." The head covering is

Honoring the Sabbath day, known as Shabbat in Hebrew, is considered the most important observance in Judaism.
The order to celebrate Shabbat originates in the ten commandments handed down to Moses by God on Mount Sinai. The fourth commandment (Exodus 20: 8-11; Deuteronomy 5: 14-15), translated from Hebrew, reads “Remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy”.
For Jewish people, the celebration of Shabbat honors God for creating the world in six days and resting on the

What Does the Bible Say About Beard?

Here is some of what I have found in my studies on the subject. "Don't round your hair at the temples or mar the edges of your beard." - Leviticus 19:27
Nowhere does HaShem say that cutting the beard is acceptable. One of the humiliations of a conqueror was to shave or take off the beards of the men. The reason for both prohibitions in Lev. 19:27 have to do with pagan practices. HaShem told His People Israel not to shave their hair around the temples by the ears and around the head.

A Jewish Message for Mankind

Our Rabbi, Maran Yeshua is Jewish. This obvious reality has too often been obscured by both Christian and Jewish attitudes polarized by prejudice, hatred, and fear.

This writer is among them. We have come to recognize through careful investigation that the Good News is something

Have you wondered if you have Jewish ancestors? Does your family history include stories of Jewish heritage or Jewish traditions? Some experts state that as much as 50% of the populations of Calabria and Sicily (the most Southern regions of Italy) were Jewish before the Inquisition. During the Inquisition, some of these families moved north in Italy and then east into Greece

Worship God with your money

This is Mevaser Yochanan, I am the leader of Beth HaDerech Messianic Jewish Congregation and as your friend. I wanted to give thanks to you for putting your best foot forward and try to serve HaShem in gladness, and in efforts (doing His Mitzvot), etc.
One of the important mitzvot in Judaism is giving maaser (tiding) which helps you to release HaShem blessings upon your life as a believer. When we give maaser, we are giving BACK what belongs to HaShem. What is not ours, but HaShem’s. He

And on the fifteenth day of the same month is the Feast of Unleavened bread to the Lord; for seven days you shall eat unleavened bread. On the seventh day is a holy convocation; you shall not do any ordinary work.” Vayikra / Leviticus 23:5-8

The Rabbis of the Passover Haggadah

It is a curious fact that many of the stories in the Passover Haggadah are not from ancient Israel and not from the time of Israel’s exodus and wilderness wandering. Many are from the second century and the emerging Judaism of the time between the Jewish wars with Rome and after the destruction of the temple.
I have a small but growing collection of Passover Haggadahs, including several from the 1930’s and 1940’s. I recently saw a reference in an article and decided to

Biblical Holidays (Hagim)

The seasonal feasts of HaShem - Holidays in Israel. The Hebrew Scriptures tell us: “These are the appointed times of HaShem, holy convocations which you shall proclaim at the times appointed for them.” – Leviticus 23:4
Israel's Feasts, outlined in Vayikra / Leviticus 23, are worthy of serious study. There is much redemptive and prophetic meaning packed into these divinely ordained feasts. They were--and still are--God's object lessons to Israel, and by

The Name of God | Messianic Judaism #4

In the last series of articles we examined the need for Messianic Judaism to establish an identity.  The focus was on examining both the similarities and differences of Messianic Judaism and the broader Jewish movement.
This time I want to focus on our relationship to God and more specifically how Messianic Judaism views the name of God. I believe this is a crucial discussion if we wish to grow as a branch within Judaism.  There are those who do not pronounce the name and

Messianic Jewish Emuna: Soul Mirror

(Ya’akov / James 1:22-25) Don’t deceive yourselves by only hearing what the Word says, but do it! For whoever hears the Word but doesn’t do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror, who looks at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But if a person looks closely into the perfect Torah, which gives freedom, and continues, becoming not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work it requires, then he will be blessed in what

Differences to Judaism|Messianic Judaism #3

While we do have many things in common with our Jewish brothers and sisters we obviously have some major differences.
One of the major differences is the belief in Yeshua as the Messiah. The concept of believing in a Messiah is not foreign to Judaism. One of the thirteen principals of the Rambam was “I believe with perfect faith in the coming of the Messiah. How long it takes, I will wait for His coming every day.” (Number 12)
Also Messianic Judaism is somewhat of a

Counting of the Omer / Sefirat HaOmer

We mark the passage of time between Pesach (Passover) and Shavuot (Pentecost) by the “counting of the omer.” A period of seven weeks is observed in which each day is counted off for 49 days ending on the fiftieth day known as Shavuot /Pentecost (Pentecost-means 50). It is the number of days from the barley harvest to the wheat harvest.
The counting of the days of the Omer is a biblical commandment incumbent upon every believer. Traditionally, the period of the Omer

Let's review the special laws of the korban Pesach to show how they help to create a special environment in which we can thank the one who took us from Egypt to the promise land.

Mashiach, Torah and the Jewish Temple

Mashiach kept the whole Torah. He told every one that Torah was to be kept (see Mattityahu HaLevi / Matthew 5, also 28). All his teachings have as a base the Holy Torah and the Prophets.
ANY ONE who teaches or proclaims that the Holy Mashiach broke the Torah and such notion is acceptable to him; this individual must be judged that his so called Mashiach is a false one, not the real one. This is the spirit of Armilus (anti-Messiah) present these last days. (See 1 Yochanan / John

The Name of the Jewish Messiah is Yeshua, and its meaning comes from the Hebrew root, yasha, meaning "to save." That is why He was named Yeshua, because He will "save" His people from their sins (Mattityahu / Matthew 1:21). Thus, Yeshua means "salvation." The correct Name for our Rabbi, Maran Yeshua is from the Aramaic to the Hebrew is Yeshua. It is a

Pride Will Come Before the Fall - Part #2

As you will see in one of the Scripture verses below - Satan was one of the highest of all the angels God has ever created. He was allowed to literally walk on the mountain of God Himself. He thus had to know how awesome and how powerful God really is and that there was no way that anyone could ever begin to try and overthrow Him.
If God is all-powerful and there are no other Gods in existence - then anyone with half a brain can deduce that God cannot be defeated or overthrown.
